As promised, here is my Pulse drive installation. Damm camera batteries
went dead at launch time, so this is close. Would have posted eariler, but
I've been having too much fun with the boat!
So, you ask, how does it perform? I'm here to tell ya that if you stay
with your Alpha's, Bravos, XR's, TRS, #3's, #6's, your crazy! I have to do
some minor adjustments with the proping (I am a little too big so I am not
getting full RPM) but that will be solved shortly. The boat gets on a
plane faster, stays on a plane at lower speeds and rides better. One of
the things I was worried about with this change was bow lift. Everyone
says that the Cafe needs lots of bow lift and moving the motors forward 9"
(for the trannys) would make it worse. I have run into just the opposite.
In big seas and chop I need to use the tabs to keep the bow down. In
following seas, the boat ride is much better! Going along and not having
to throttle to save the drives is something that you just have to try to
really appreciate.
Is there a down side? Well, no. Docking is different. Stern drives dock so
well because you can change the direction of thrust. With the Pulse, you
just dock it like any other twin engine rudder boat. Once you are used to
it, it is no different. The Pulse does so well in reverse that you would
not know it is a surface drive.
Oh, and don't forget... you get a really COOL rooster tail!
